The year 1989
In 1991, I made four drawings, representing Zoids that I would have loved to see in real. This could have been the years after the Super 1000 line, after the end of the OER in 1988. This is how I imagined the OER line in 1989.
First, a small Scavenger. This one was maybe the first I did. In my mind, those two Zoids were supposed to be two Super 1000. But when I created Zavenga, in 2006, I transformed it to do a Super Zoid like Slime. It was the first I did from those drawings. On the other hand, Locusta was kept as a Super 1000, and was the last I realized, in 2011.
On this one, again wa can see Zoids with transluscent parts : Agrion and Stegomya. Those two were supposed to be small Zoids, something a little more evoluved than the White Heads, but in the same spirit. But, their wings had to be transluscent. Something I kept on the two customs. The big one, Ardeosaurus Red, was seen as an evolution of Spinefin. The same size, the same style, but without the orangish colour. It was with the same dark red than the regular Red Zoids. But I kept the green transluscent parts that appeared on Spinefin, which was an inovation in 1988. And for the lobster, I wanted it to be perfect. This Zoid was the main character of the drawing, that's maybe why I did it the first. It became Nephrops. Everything in this Zoid is seen to be as the Blue Super 1000 Zoids, like Zillon, Zore and Kannon : black and grey, blue caps, orange canopy. But, the plus, is that I did a sea creature, soemthing that was less and less seen in 1987-1988 in the Zoid line. It was supposed to be a Super 1000 in the begining, but it became a Super Zoid, smaller, but more accurate to the Super Zoids line.
This is here that I used the most the crustaceans, animals that were too few used by Tomy for the Zoids. The first crab, the red one, is a sea spider (that I also named Sea Spider), and was seen as a Super 1000. I made it like if it was a Super 1000, but the result was smaller than expected. The other red crab is Zeherl MK2. It is funny to see that I drew this one a long time before the MK1, that had nothing to do with those sketches. Zeherl MK2 was seen as a Super 1000 Zoids, with a body covering the head, like was seen on Zray. I had Zray in mind when I did this drawing. And for the big one, Langosta, I wanted a giant crustacean. Something that was never made. Only Scavenger was looking a little like that, but that was all. For him, I used the same colour scheme than the Blues of 1987 : black and grey, blue caps, orange canopy and parts. I didn't respect exactly the drawing, because I tryed to be closer to the real animal. But Langosta is maybe the custom that I am the most proud of, the better realized.
The last drawing. The blue spider was imagined as a White Head, but a little more evolved, like Trooperzoid and Scorpozoid. It became Grantulla MK2, a Super Zoid like Trooper and Scorpo in the end. I was thinking of green parts for it, but I took the same colours than the old Super Zoids. The red serpent was something not important when I did it. It was a Super Zoid, maybe inspired by Zark (the head, for example). But when I did Hanech, I thought it could fit with this one. Actually, Hanech is a far better concept than this drawing, that was a little insignifiant. The reason I did this drawing, is Neozilla. I wanted a Trex type, but not looking as a big dinosaure, like as they were seen in the eighties. It is something that was seen after, with Genosaurer and Gojulas Giga, but in 1991, it was impossible to think this could exist one day. Most of all, I wanted it big. The size of an Ultrasaurus (which, I only saw one time in 1991, the Red, and that I didn't have any photo). It has the same colour scheme than the other Blue, like Zillon and co, but I put green canopy instead of orange, to add a little more originality. Well, when I built Neozilla, I wanted it like the drawing, and I tryed to be as closed to that.
So now, all this is done. All those Zoids I wanted to see real. When I did the drawings, it was impossible for me to imagine they could exist one day. Because the OER line was finished, and also because I couldn't imagine it was possible to do those kind of Zoids. So, after, a long time after, one by one, I built them. And now, the 1989 line is complete. Two Small Zoids, four Super Zoids, two Super 1000, four Giants :
